10.35 am: BJP decries ‘Maoist, anarchist’ AAP techniques
The BJP has reacted almost in unison, a series of leaders calling the scuffle involving AAP and BJP party members in Delhi on Wednesday evening further evidence of the AAP’s Maoist thinking.
While Ravi Shankar Prasad reacted on Wednesday evening saying the AAP members resorting to violence were displaying their Maoist thought, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi agreed on Thursday morning. “This is a display of their Maowadi techniques,” he said. “They are Maoists and anarchists. What else do you expect from a leader who calls himself an anarchist at a rally?”
Other BJP leaders claimed they had been told of a series of text messages doing the rounds among AAP volunteers summoning them to various spots simultaneously in response to Kejriwal’s brief detention in Gujarat. Some of these messages were doing the rounds as far as Kerala, one BJP leader said.
10.25 am: Delhi Police is taking orders from Modi, says Ashutosh
Former journalist and Aam Aadmi Party member Ashutosh, who was seen on the wall of the BJP office on Wednesday evening, said the Delhi Police were biased in the way they dealt with the scuffle outside the BJP office in Delhi. More than three dozen AAP volunteers were injured but the FIR did not name a single BJP party member as accused in the attack, he said.
“Narendra Koli admitted on Aaj Tak channel that he hit our volunteer on the head with a lathi, but he is out free,” Ashutosh told television channels. “… This shows that the Delhi police is biased, and is taking orders from Mr Modi, not from Sushilkumar Shinde.”
“Three dozen AAP members were injured, did they hit themselves?” he asked. The BJP and the Congress as well as the Delhi police are all hand in glove, he claimed.
9.56 am: Kejriwal appeals for calm, say arrest of supporters is ‘expected’
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal told media that AAP needed to be prepared for more incidents of ‘arrest and intimidation’ following the detention of several party workers in the wake of an attack on the BJP office in New Delhi.
The Delhi police have said that they did not receive any issue of a dharna being held. “It was a violent protest, therefore we had to take action”, a Delhi police spokesman said.
Kejriwal added that he continued to appeal for calm among party workers. The AAP convenor who is in Gujarat to ‘verify’ Modi’s development claims, added that Modi had taken away land from non-Gujarati Sikh farmers, and asked why the state government had gone all the way to the Supreme Court to deprive them of a livelihood.
